Your Disaster Checklist

1. Assemble a disaster supplies kit.

2. Arrange for someone to check on you.

3. Plan for transportation if you need to evacuate to a shelter.

4. Plan and practice escape routes from your home.

5. Find a safe place in your home for each type of emergency.

6. Have a plan to signal the need for help.

7. Post emergency phone numbers near the phone.

8. If you have a home health care service, plan ahead with your agency for emergency procedures.

9. Teach those who may need to assist you in an emergency how to operate necessary equipment.

Assemble your supplies in a plastic, waterproof container. It is a good Idea to make up a three day supply or more.

1. One gallon of drinking water per person per day.

2. Canned Food. Don't forget the can opener!

3. Buy canned or boxed juices, milk, and soup.

4. Peanut butter is a good source of protein, crackers, granola bars, cereals, trail mix.

5. Instant coffee and tea, sugar, salt, pepper, other spices.

6. First aid manual, scissors, sterile bandages, gauze pads, cotton balls, safety pins, latex gloves.

7. Antibiotic ointment, cleansing agents such as isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, aspirin, vitamins.

8. Battery-powered radio and extra batteries.

9. Flashlight, matches, wrench, pliers and other tools, duck tape, fire extinguisher.

10. Bedding supplies, kitchen supplies, trash bags.

11. Supplies for your pets.

Each family will need different things. Pack the items your family needs.

It is estimated that some 35 million people suffer from tinnitus. So, what is tinnitus? Tinnitus is defined as any abnormal noise perceived by the patient when no external acoustic stimulus exists. In other words, your ears ring when no ringing is around.

The exact cause of tinnitus is hard to determine but experts agree — loud noises should be avoided. It is recommended that you use earplugs when exposed to 85 dB and above. But what does 85 dB mean?
